Washington, D.C. – Once again, weak-kneed Senate Republicans have shown they lack the spine to deliver on the promises that put President Trump back in the White House and gave the GOP majorities in Congress. While House members punted a clean decision on full Department of Homeland Security funding and attachment of the critical SAVE America Act, Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett is calling out the real culprits: Senate RINOs who cut backroom deals with Chuck Schumer at 2:25 a.m. and then headed out for vacation, leaving border security and election integrity hanging in the balance.
The House passed a short-term stopgap to fund the entire DHS – including ICE and Border Patrol – through May 22, rejecting the Senate’s watered-down version that omitted vital immigration enforcement funding. Yet Senate leadership under John Thune refused to force a real vote or kill the filibuster, instead striking a deal that shortchanges law enforcement at our borders while the partial government shutdown drags on, forcing TSA agents to work without pay and driving up costs for hardworking American families.
Burchett didn’t mince words in his fiery Fox News appearance. “I think they need to get some new leadership over there, in my opinion,” he declared, blasting Thune for making “a huge mistake” by ignoring that 83% of Americans support President Trump and the SAVE America Act. That commonsense bill requires proof of citizenship and voter ID for federal elections – a basic safeguard against illegal voting that every patriotic citizen knows is long overdue.
“They passed that thing at 2:25 in the morning and left all the other senators kind of hanging,” Burchett continued. “All he had to do is have five of his cronies on the floor. He cuts a deal with Schumer. Obviously, the leadership in the Senate… has a real disgust for this President and House leadership because they didn’t even have the guts to call Speaker Mike Johnson and let them know what happened.”
This is the same tired Washington swamp behavior that conservatives across Nevada and the heartland are sick of seeing. Faith-based families, pro-life advocates, and constitutional patriots sent a clear message in 2024: Secure the border, enforce our laws, protect our elections, and stop the invasion that has endangered communities and drained taxpayer resources. Yet Senate RINOs would rather play games in the dark of night than stand firm for American sovereignty.
Burchett rightly highlighted the hypocrisy – members of Congress keep cashing their paychecks while essential workers suffer and gas prices climb. He has long sponsored his “Do Your Job Act” to freeze congressional salaries during shutdowns, reminding the spoiled elites that public service is an honor, not a vacation perk. “You shouldn’t have hired on if you didn’t want to work,” he said, echoing the frustration of every small-business owner and working parent who actually shows up every day.
For pro-family, pro-America conservatives who believe our constitutional republic and traditional values are worth defending, this fiasco is a wake-up call. The SAVE Act isn’t radical – it’s righteous protection for the integrity of our votes. Full DHS funding that backs ICE isn’t optional – it’s essential to removing criminal illegal aliens and restoring law and order.
President Trump and House Republicans are fighting to deliver the America First agenda voters demanded. Senate leadership that cuts deals with Democrats and dodges tough votes on border security and election security has no place in a party committed to making America safe, prosperous, and sovereign once again.
It’s time for real conservatives to demand accountability. Replace weak leadership with fighters who have the guts to do the job. Secure borders. Clean elections. No more excuses. America remains the world’s last best hope, and we will not let RINOs squander the mandate to keep her strong.
