The lengths to which Democrats will go to show their outrage is rich. Today House Democrats, led by Hakeem Jeffries defied the will of the American people who universally polled in favor of mass deportations of illegal aliens, by forcing a shutdown of the federal government. What makes this so egregious is that this will be the second such shutdown of the federal government in less than a year. The last time in November became the longest government shutdown in history. Many people on SNAP benefits and government assistance suffered as a result of the Democrat shutdown.

This iteration comes as the Democrat leadership is calling for draconian changes in ICE and Border Patrol agencies who have been carrying out the will of the American people and Federal Law in deporting illegal aliens from sanctuary cities. What is at stake here isn’t just a partial government shutdown but that federal employees like Border Patrol, TSA and Secret Service agents won’t be getting paid during this shutdown.
You would think that if the target of the Democrat Party ire would be affected that this latest stunt would be effective but DHS which is the Department which pays ICE is funded thru 2029 due to the passage of the Trump administration’s Big Beautiful Bill. So why would Senate Democrats go to all of these lengths knowing their efforts were in vain? The answer is drama.

For the past 10 years Democrats have carried out a campaign of drama that gets attention. If their constituency sees that their leadership is fighting for them then maybe they’re worth keeping in office. Even if their efforts mean that someone (not them) has to go without a paycheck, or loses their home as did some during the 2025 Democrat Shutdown, then they’re good for another election cycle.

Well this time the American people may have something different to say. Like, “How come House members get paid when the government shutdowns?” And that is what sticks in the minds of even the most staunch Progressive. If not getting paid is good enough for Secret Service Agents, then missing a meal or two, maybe even missing a house payment or two is good enough for clamp-trapping politicians up in Capital Hill.
