Oregon- In a nation where the radical left relentlessly attacks the sanctity of life, good news is breaking out of Oregon: pro-life champions have secured a significant victory for religious freedom and conscience rights.
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that Oregon’s Reproductive Health Equity Act – a 2017 law forcing employer health insurance plans to cover abortions and contraceptives at no cost – cannot be enforced against the state’s leading pro-life organization, Oregon Right to Life. U.S. District Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai sided with the Keizer-based group, finding that the mandate violates their First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion because the law is not neutral toward faith-based beliefs.

Oregon Right to Life had applied for a religious exemption, only to be told by state bureaucrats that the organization was “not religious enough.” Executive Director Lois Anderson celebrated the ruling with clarity and conviction: “From the beginning, we have asserted that the legislature enacted an unconstitutional law in 2017 and that violated the rights of pro-life Oregonians and today the court agreed. This is a win for Oregon Right to Life, but more than that, it is a victory for all pro-life Oregonians.”
This battle was never just about one nonprofit’s health plan. It was about whether government could compel faithful Americans – who believe life begins at conception and that abortion ends an innocent human life – to subsidize the very evil they oppose. The judge’s decision affirms what pro-life, faith-based conservatives have always known: our rights come from God, not from Sacramento-style bureaucrats in Salem. No state has the authority to force Christians or any person of conscience to violate deeply held biblical convictions.

In a state long dominated by progressive policies that prioritize abortion on demand, this ruling stands as a beacon of hope. It protects the ability of pro-life organizations to operate according to their principles without government coercion. It sends a clear message that the march to restore religious liberty and the right to life is gaining ground, even in unexpected places.
Here in Nevada, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our pro-life brothers and sisters in Oregon. We believe every child – born and unborn – is a sacred gift from God. We reject any mandate that treats abortion as just another “healthcare” benefit while ignoring the millions of lives lost since Roe. True compassion means protecting the vulnerable, supporting mothers in crisis, and upholding the traditional family values that strengthen our communities and our republic.
This victory reminds us that America remains the world’s last best hope precisely because we were founded on the principle that government exists to secure God-given rights – including the right to life and the free exercise of religion – not to trample them in service of a radical agenda.
Let us pray for more such wins across our land. Let us continue to advocate for laws that protect the unborn, empower parents, and defend conscience rights without apology. And let us give thanks for courageous organizations like Oregon Right to Life that refuse to bow to cultural pressure.
