Ghazali entered the United States in 2011 on an IR1 immigrant visa as the spouse of a U.S. citizen and was granted citizenship in 2016 under the Obama administration. Living in nearby Dearborn Heights, a hub of Lebanese-American communities, he reportedly lost several family members—including two brothers, a niece, and a nephew—in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon about 10 days earlier, leaving him “devastated” according to sources in the community.
