The ongoing discord in Henderson’s City Hall serves as a stark reminder of why civility, respect, and decorum must remain cornerstones of public service—especially in the chambers where decisions affecting families, businesses, and communities are made. A recent civil lawsuit filed by Councilwoman Carrie Cox against fellow Councilman Jim Seebock alleges battery stemming from a heated exchange in March 2024, just before a council meeting. According to the complaint filed in Clark County District Court, Seebock allegedly “cornered” Cox behind the dais during a discussion about his bid for mayor pro tem, then struck her forcefully on the upper arm three times, causing severe pain and emotional distress. Cox, who opposed Seebock’s appointment partly due to prior ethics concerns involving his use of an LVMPD uniform in campaign materials, is seeking over $30,000 in damages for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Seebock has firmly denied the allegations, with his statement through a spokesperson describing the lawsuit—filed shortly after Cox announced her re-election bid—as a “political stunt” meant to distract from her own legal troubles, including a pending felony charge related to secretly recording private conversations and multiple ethics violations.
Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero responded decisively in a personal Facebook post, making clear that the council will not be intimidated, distracted, or derailed by the suit. “For too long, this behavior has been allowed to go unchecked,” Romero wrote. “In an effort to maintain decorum and minimize chaos, members of the council have dealt with this abhorrent behavior behind the scenes to the greatest extent possible. EVERY one of us has been a target of her unsubstantiated, untrue, malicious and defamatory rumors to the point we’ve each had to take legal action against her to protect ourselves and our families.”
The mayor highlighted the council’s shared commitment to Henderson’s progress, pointing to achievements like reduced crime rates, strong recruitment for police and fire departments, and upgraded public safety facilities. Her statement underscores a broader frustration with patterns of disruption that have plagued the body, including a unanimous censure of Cox in November 2025 amid her indictment.

This episode illustrates the unfortunate reality that personal animosities and manufactured controversies can overshadow the vital work of governing. Conservative principles demand that elected officials prioritize service to constituents—rooted in integrity, accountability, and mutual respect—over division or self-promotion. Henderson residents deserve leaders who focus on lowering crime, supporting law enforcement, and delivering results, not endless courtroom battles or rumor mills.
As this matter proceeds through the courts, let it serve as a call to restore civility in our halls of government. America’s strength lies in citizens and officials who uphold traditional values of honesty, restraint, and dedication to the common good—qualities that make our republic the world’s beacon of hope and opportunity.
