Las Vegas, NV – In a heartbreaking betrayal of biblical truth and the innocence of children, an agency of the United Methodist Church has thrown its support behind federal legislation that would legalize and expand access to puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and irreversible sex-change surgeries for minors. The General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) is backing the so-called “Transgender Bill of Rights,” which seeks to eliminate state-level protections that safeguard young people from these experimental and often mutilating procedures.
Bishop Julius Trimble, head of the GBCS, and the agency argue that such “gender-affirming care” is essential healthcare and that restrictions infringe on parental rights and personal dignity. They frame opposition as discrimination while ignoring the growing mountain of evidence from Europe and American detransitioners showing lifelong regret, sterility, bone loss, heart problems, and profound psychological harm inflicted on confused children.
This is not compassion. It is the radical ideology of the age masquerading as mercy. Scripture is crystal clear: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27). Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made by a loving Creator (Psalm 139:14), not blank canvases for surgeons’ knives or pharmaceutical experiments. Jesus Himself affirmed the created order: “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female?” (Matthew 19:4).
For pro-family, pro-life, faith-based conservatives across Nevada and the heartland, this latest move from a mainline denomination is a painful reminder of how far some church bureaucracies have drifted from historic Christianity. True compassion protects the vulnerable, especially minors who cannot consent to permanent alterations that destroy healthy organs and futures. Parents, pastors, and policymakers have a moral duty to shield children from ideological capture, not affirm confusion that often stems from social contagion, trauma, or mental health struggles.
The United Methodist Church has already fractured over issues of biblical authority on marriage and sexuality, with many faithful congregations and entire conferences departing for more orthodox expressions of Methodism. This latest endorsement will only accelerate that exodus among believers who refuse to trade God’s Word for the approval of a fallen culture.
America remains the world’s last best hope precisely because we were founded on Judeo-Christian principles that value life, truth, and the family as the bedrock of society. When institutions – even religious ones – promote the chemical and surgical sterilization of children, they stand against both science and Scripture. Courageous states, including those with strong conservative leadership, have passed commonsense bans on these procedures for minors, putting protection ahead of political correctness.
It’s time for Methodists – and all Christians – to reexamine their Bibles on this issue, as the user rightly suggests. Return to the unchanging Word. Reject the spirit of the age. Protect God’s little ones. Stand boldly for biological reality, parental authority, and the sacredness of the human body as designed by our Creator.
Faithful believers in Nevada and nationwide must pray for revival within struggling denominations, support biblically sound churches, and back policies that defend innocent children rather than sacrifice them on the altar of modern idolatry. Our constitutional republic thrives when rooted in truth, not trendy falsehoods.
